More than you want to know about the inside of my nose
I think I need my nose gutted and redone. I’m serious here.
For a long time now my nose has just plain sucked. I’m talking about a decade, maybe more. It’s honestly been causing me problems as far back as I can remember. I’m not talking about cosmetically, I don’t really care that it’s a bit big. I do care that it doesn’t breathe well.
After trying prescription nose sprays for a while (a long while) I finally got a little fed up with the fact that my right nostril hardly ever works more than a tiny bit, and my left nostril isn’t much better. I made an appointment with an otolaryngolist aka Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) doctor. I can’t say that I was too shocked when he said that the insides of my nose were all sorts of messed up.
You’d think that with a big nose you’d have plenty of breathing room in your nostrils. Well, I don’t. Not only is my septum deviated on both sides, but the fleshy bits inside my nose, the turbinates, are larger than they should be. The doctor basically said that in the best case of no congestion or extra swelling, the airways in my nose are considerably smaller than normal. He also said that the only way to really fix this would be surgery, and that he reckoned that eventually I would get annoyed enough with things to get it done, although he stressed that it was purely elective and my choice.
Well, I think I have to do it. Non-functioning nose is no fun! I am going to call them up tomorrow and find out what the next step will be.
