Site Outage

Not that anyone is reading, but the blog has been down for the past week or so, as my web host had been in the midst of a very protracted hardware upgrade, and the temporary status were permission issues on the website that i was not able to fix unit this AM. Service is now restored, so you can return to your regularly scheduled non-updates (book post coming in a week or so though!).

Restoration

For whatever reason, my blog got somewhat pwned recently. Probably because I sucked at upgrading WP, but there was some stupidity in the layout of the directories which probably also contributed to the hacking. Either way, I cleaned it up last week, but I messed up some wordpress source files, so I decided to do a fresh installation. and just hookup the old database. I think things are good now (they appear to be, but if anyone happens to notice something odd, let me know1

WordPress!!!

I wanted to post about something awesome but – well, my admin page seems to be sans CSS right now, so I am posting this stupid thing from my phone. Maybe tomorrow I can fix the install tomorrow and do the post I meant to make.

Again!

Just like last year, I’m going to try to post once a day in February. This year it will be harder as there is that pesky 29th to contend with.

What have we learned?

Well the month experiment in daily posting is about over. I’ve posted a fair bit about food, and some about other random stuff. I certainly have complained about my house a bit (oh, and there is more to come). The experiment was fun, and I am going to try to post more often, but I won’t force out a post a day.

Also, there is at least one thing I was going to post about and I never managed to. And that is windows. So I will talk a little about them. My hundred year old windows are cool, even if some are painted shut, and very cold due to being single pane. You notice this a lot when you have no furnace for 4 or 5 days. Yes, my furnace still doesn’t work. But I know what’s broken now. The pressure switch is busted. The part has to be ordered and might take until next week to come in – although maybe this week. I paid my $55 and I’m good to go until it’s fixed though, so I think that warranty was a good gift from my realtor.

And with that, I bid you adieu for the month!

Meta-post

I took a few minutes during lunch to install the Disqus commenting system, on a whim. Let’s see how it goes…

New Feed

Transparent, but I thought I would mention that I decide to check out feedburner, so I added a plugin that supposedly redirects my feed through that.

The feed itself is: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/StarryWisdom

Landlords (and lack thereof)

Who is my landlord now? Is it the old landlord? I tend to think now, since there is still an auction scheduled for the house, even though it was pushed out a month. Is it the bank who holds the mortgage? I think so. But I don’t know who this bank is. And I think they don’t know I exist. So what’s the upshot of all this.

1) I am obligated to pay rent, or I violate the terms of my lease, evidently. And since I wasn’t told otherwise by anyone, I paid the old landlord (but there is a good record of this payment), I’m sure this tickles him pink.

2) There is no one to call for basic repairs. In particular the dimmer switch for the track lighting in my room burned out last week. I have a table lamp, but not having a light switch near the door is quite a drag. I actually bought a new switch, and spent time figuring out which circuit the switch was on, but when I opened up the workbox, well the wires made no sense, and it was just a spaghetti mess. I didn’t feel like hacking around to get it to work, so I sealed it back up. So, the upshot is, I have no working lightswitch, and no one to MAKE fix it for me. I guess I will call the tenant union tomorrow and ask them what is the right thing to do in this situation.

3) GRRR ARGH!

Blogger blog is in hibernation

I’ve imported all the old content from my blogger travel blog. The Japan category encompasses that trip, and Travel encompasses it all, in case you are interested,
